Medical Market
Currently there are few products in the medical field that
provide accurate point of care results. Most testing involves
time consuming and costly methods such as NAAT/PCR. The NAAT/PCR
test is based on the replication of DNA. However, this testing
is flawed. NAAT/PCR is affected by inhibitory factors which
will yield false negative results. NAAT/PCR will also
replicate dead microorganisms, thus providing false positive
results.
The FluoroQuik system detects enzymes, and enzymes are only produced by live viable organisms. Therefore, a false positive result should not occur and the results can be obtained within minutes of obtaining a sample.
Other diagnostic products on the market that are point of care
oriented utilize a system called lateral flow (similar to pregnancy
tests). Lateral flow tests are not considered accurate.
For example, tests for Chlamydia average between 50% to 65% in
accuracy.
The diagnostic method of utilizing enzyme detection is highly
accurate as the substrates utilized in the FluoroQuik assays are
specific to the target organism.
